Kate Miller Metro Illustration

In today's Metro newspaper Kate Miller's illustration on page 41 really caught
my eye. Did you see it?  It illustrated an advice piece about how to get on with
the in-laws and had a couple in party hats rowing on a green background and a
young woman in the left-hand foreground ........

Here are some links to see more of Kate Miller's illustrations:

Sarah Morris

I really like the paintings of artist Sarah Morris. Her work can be seen on this site
www.petzel.com/artists/sarah-morris .... the ones I like best on this site are:

(number 23) Metro Center Capital 2001  and (number 27) Midtown-HBO/Grace 1999

these are inspiring me in my drawings of skyscrapers in the City.

The Rothko Room at the Tate Modern has been reopened.  It is on level 3 inside the Material Gestures section. The murals that were intended  for  the Four Seasons restaurant in the Seagram Building in NY are hung there.  Seeing the murals again I was struck by the quietness and vastness of them.  In painting these murals Rothko was influenced by Michelangelo's Laventian Library in Florence with its blind windows and oppressive atmosphere.  The murals are all in dark reds and greys and looking at them intently there is a sense of looking out through a window.

looking back over my older posts on this blog I rediscovered this drawing which I am going to use as a starting point for a new series of sketches and paintings on urban structure .... focusing on windows
