Liverpool Biennial 2012
When I went to the Walker Art Gallery to see the John Moores Painting Prize 2012 I immediately noticed the very colourful lifesize model pigeons 'roosting' on an outside ledge.
This is an installation by Patrick Murphy 'Belonging' 2012 and is part of the Liverpool Bienniel operating under the title 'The Unexpected Guest'.
Pigeons have been banished from city centres as they are seen to be a nuisance. Murphy has made 150 bright pigeons and reinstated them into their original urban context.

and there is an interesting review of the bienniel by Francis Frascina on pages 18 and 19 of Art Monthly Nov 12 (361)
