Last week I went to the new exhibition at the South London Gallery
www.southlondongallery.org
Its new buildings are now open and the exhibition is a combination
of art and architecture with many art works drawn or painted directly
onto the gallery walls.
My favourite piece was by Gary Woodley. He had put geometric lines
across the staircase space to draw attention to the staircase
transforming from a space inbetween, a space of transition, a space
we pass through on the way to somewhere else into a dynamic space
with tension....... the black geometric lines encouraged me to
look at the whole space: the stairs under my feet and the walls and
ceiling......
